Niva Pereiaslavshchyny is a Ukrainian-British joint venture engaged in grain cultivation, feed production, pig farming, and meat processing. The company is one of the largest pork producers in Ukraine. As part of reviewing a new investment, AVG carried out a review of the approved Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for the farm, assessing its compliance with Ukrainian regulatory requirements and IFC Performance Standards.
Review of the approved EIA, state environmental expertise, and public consultations;
Review of comments published online regarding the second draft EIA;
Consideration of a complaint filed by the “Peremoha” community with the support of the NGO Stop Corruption.
The review of the EIA process for the pig complex revealed several deviations from procedures required under Ukrainian legislation, as well as numerous non-compliances with IFC Performance Standards (PS). The main findings highlighted inconsistencies in procedural steps undertaken during the EIA process and identified gaps in compliance with IFC PS. The results of this analysis were presented in a matrix covering the EIA review, IFC compliance assessment, and a corrective Action Plan designed to address identified shortcomings.
